PBC players became champions of Zanzibar
Pemba Basketball Club players last month went to Unguja to participate in the basketball tournament for primary schools. This tournament was purposefully organized to celebrate the 50 years since the declaration of free education in Zanzibar.
Our kids managed to reach the final and outclassed Darajani Primary School by 47 - 30 and eventually became the Champions.
After the match the PBC coach Mohamed Salim 'Gabsi' said " I'm so proud of these kids. They are so great in all four quarters especially in the first half.
They played with intensity and composure, The confidence and had working were the most important thing behind their success." He said.
PBC receives 40 basketballs from US Embassy
Representative of the United States Embassy in Tanzania, J. Michael Tritchler, delivering basketballs to the Guest of honour, Affan Othman Juma. In the right is President of Pemba Basketball Club, Hussein Matora Hussein.
On behalf of the US Ambassador, J. Michael Tritchler, has delivered a total of 40 basketballs to Pemba Basketball Club. He said on the occasion of receiving of such assistance in the Umoja ni nguvu hall in Mkoani, Pemba that, his country will continue to support the efforts of Pemba Basketball Club.
And the guest of honour, Mr. Affan on behalf of the District Administrative Officer, has praised the efforts of the leaders of Pemba Basketball Club and has also offered thanks to the U.S. Embassy. In advance before the club has promised to contribute cash 50,000 / =.
President of Pemba Basketball Club, Hussein Matora Hussein, has offered heartfelt thanks to the American Embassy and the American people. He said the club is with the people of America and promised to offer great cooperation to the American people. The President also stressed the issue of education and has said that in addition to providing training in this game, the club also offers life skills for youth in order to prevent them from the scourge of drugs and immoral groups. The President has appealed to donors within and outside the country to emulate the example of the United States in support to the club.
Pemba Basketball Club was established in 2011 and has gained official registration from the Ministry of Sport Zanzibar in 10/01/2012. At present the club has 63 young people aged under 14 years, and has a total of only four trainers.

Mwakilishi wa Ubalozi wa Marekani, J. Michael Tritchler, amekabidhi jumla ya mipira 40 ya basketball kwa Pemba Basketball Club kwa niaba ya Balozi wa Marekani nchini Tanzania. Amesema katika hafla ya upokeaji wa msaada huo katika ukumbi wa Umoja ni nguvu Mkoani, Pemba kwamba nchi yake itaendelea kusaidia Pemba Basketball Club kila itakapowezakana.
Naye Mgeni rasmi katika hafla hiyo, ndugu Afan Othman Juma kwa niaba ya afisa tawala Wilaya Mkoani – Pemba, amesifu jitihada za viongozi wa Pemba Basketball Club na pia ametoa shukrani kwa Ubalozi wa Marekani. Katika kuendeleza mbele klabu hiyo amehidi kuchangia fedha taslimu 50,000/=.
Raisi wa Pemba Basketball Club, Hussein Matora Hussein, ametoa shukrani za dhati kwa Ubalozi wa Marekani na watu wa Marekani kwa msaadu huo. Amesema klabu ipo pamoja na watu wa Marekani na inaahidi kutoa masharikiano makubwa kwa watu wa Marekani. Pia Raisi alisisitiza suala la elimu na amesema kwamba mbali na kutoa mafunzo ya mchezo huu, klabu pia inatoa stadi za maisha kwa vijana kwa lengo la kuepusha na janga la madawa ya kulevya na vikundi viovu. Raisi ametoa wito kwa wafadhili wa ndani na nje ya nchi kuiga mfano wa nchi ya Marekani katika kusaida klabu hiyo.
Ubalozi wa Marekani mbali ya msaada huo wa mipira, imewahi kumpeleka raisi wa Pemba Basketball Club nchini Marekani kwa mafunzo ya mpira huo katika mwaka 2010.
Pemba Basketball Club imeanzishwa mwaka 2011 na imepata usajili rasmi kutoka Wizara ya Michezo Zanzibar terehe 10/1/2012. Kwa sasa klabu ina vijana 63 wenye umri chini ya miaka 14, ina jumla ya wakufunzi wanne tu.
The Pemba Basketball Club has officially registered with the Ministry of Sports and Culture. We received our official certificate of registration two weeks ago. We also received a letter of endorsement from the Ministry of Education and Vocational Training and just opened our bank account. We are official now!
