Establishment of the Organization
ELIMISHA was established through the efforts of journalists in Mbeya caused by issues pertaining to women, children, youth, disabled and the elderly found by them while executing their daily duties. In a bid to accomplish their duties of searching and distribution of media issues the Founders of this organization get an opportunity of reaching other areas in which are villages where they witness a multitude of community problems. Through this they found that there was a gap that could not be filled through writing issues for the media only and therefore found that it was important to establish this organization. Among the challenges that forced the establishment of this organization were:
• The perpetuation of poverty due to poor quality of education amongst citizens
• those living in villages despite the government having set a side a budget for development projects for poverty alleviation.
• This confirms that there has been irresponsibility on the part of the community and the government leaders.
• Services provided by organizations(NGOs and CBOs) focus on urban areas
• leaving men ,women, youth and children needs unattended in rural areas (villages).
• Due to lack of good governance, the citizens have failed to participate effectively
• In carrying out developmental programmes and in making their leaders accountable.
• In other rural areas, men domination has left women a side and therefore have deprived them
• opportunities of participating effectively in meetings and in village decision making
• and their arguments and upper ranking issues miss chance of being incorporated into development programmes. Equally the same women are left behind in contesting leadership posts even those for development in their villages such as water, education, and HIV and AIDS.
• Boys and girls become demoralized about life in villages thus resort to go to urban areas as a result of lack of classroom education and entrepreneurship skills that could remove them from poverty through investments that surround them such as land and other opportunities.
• A big group of children who are the future leaders have lost expectations. Some of them are missing opportunities for education due to their parents ignoring the importance of education; some are used employed in large estates, engage in carrying heavy loads, herding cattle, domestic employment which affects them psychologically. Likewise orphans whose numbers are increase due to effects of HIV and AIDS have been left unattended.
